Playtime Paris

Next stop on our trade show list is Playtime Paris! Celebrating their 22nd edition, Playtime Paris delivers all the up & coming trends in children and maternity fashion with over 500 international brands representing their latest and greatest collections. Over 5,000 professionals in the fashion arena recently attended this bi-annual event that brought together art, fashion, and SS17/18 children’s wear trends at the scenic Parc Floral de Paris–a former hot-air balloon factory. How magical!!

A whirl of wonder and excitement filled the air as visitors were welcomed into the trade show with the pop-up store Milk X Playtime; a one-stop-shop to collect all the best goodies from the thirty fashion and design brands featured in Playtime.

Inside the trade show trendsetters like Julie Malait presented key trends that are sure to become staples in our mini’s wardrobes next year. These concepts were brought to life by three guest artists who illustrated the ideas incorporated in the categories of Make, Repair, and Share. This year, textile designer, Julie Robert, brought us the beauty of weaving, conveying the message of a return to imperfect perfection. Her use of organic materials and her hand-made touch captures the spirit of kindness and the need to slow down and create. For Repair, Japanese artist, David Takahashi created a large patchwork heart, challenging the disposability of this age with a work of art symbolizing the need to mend and refurbish rather than to simply discard. Lastly, Clémentine Henrion, designer and illustrator, transported us on a voyage to new discoveries and exploration with his installation of colorful wings and kites, representing the ideals of Share.

Following the days of the event, major awards for children’s fashion and lifestyle were publicly announced. On the first night, Milk Magazine awarded four brands the Milk Awards for their respective categories: Atelier Barn under fashion, Misha and Puff for Must Have Collection, Bobo Choses’ shoes, and Ferm Living kids for home ware. The second night, the Pirouette blog selected the winners of the the One to Watch Awards for the most promising Fashion and Design Collection 4 years old and under. And the winners are…. Lululand for Children’s Fashion and Accessories as well as Bonjour for Children’s Design!

Continuing from last season, The New Now Space, led by designer Deborah Sfez attracted attention to 12 up-and-coming children’s fashion brands that took their first steps into the spotlight. We’ll continue to keep our eyes on these blossoming brands: Hi Little, Monty & Co, Organic Zoo, Paush, Poupée, Raspberry Republic, Salacadula, Theodore Kids, Vuela Cometa, Walnut & Walrus, Wawa, and Where is Marlo.
